Hey guys, this is gonna be one hell of a first post, but.. Here goes!!
The premise behind the community RP events is great for the players to get their characters involved in something fun and exciting, and I think the Mind Games event has been a great success in establishing how they work and what issues arise from them.
Now so far from what I've seen in the feedback thread for the event, there was one concern that everyone seemed to agree with: That there were too many people involved, causing overwhelming confusion and deterring people from getting into it as much as they'd like, and while the solution to this problem seems easy, it's not. The last thing we want to do is exclude people, or make them feel left out.
While I myself wasn't involved at all with this particular event, mostly because of the aforementioned reason, I have been part of a few scenarios where there was just too many people doing too many things at once to keep up with, and it was really disappointing that I couldn't take part as much as I'd have liked. I'm not saying I wanted to be the hero, I just wanted to feel like my actions and presence were for a reason, rather than just another face in the crowd, even if it was the one being kicked into the dirt.
So, what I'm suggestion is something that will require a little bit of effort from everyone. As they say, you have to give a little to get a little.
For future events, any kind of role play done by characters that relate to that story arc will document what happens to them. Not a full detailed report, but more a brief summary of important developments. For example, Jack meets Jill in Club Caprice. They talk about their lives, what they do, have a few drinks, get hassled by Hu'Szsersvn and go on their separate ways.
Too. Much. Information. What might be considered an important development from that instance though, is that perhaps Jack having befriended Jill leads to a partnering later on that leads to the downfall of Dr Doom, or Jill discloses pivotal information regarding one of Dr Doom's evil schemes.
I think you get the idea.
So once your character has been involved in one of these "important developments" and you've quickly jotted down what's happened, you send it to an e-mail. I'm more than happy to create one specifically for this cause.
What I'll do with it then is read over what's been sent in by the parties involved, re-write it and post it up on the Primus Database. For example, the entire Superior event would be listed under "Mind Games" with links to all characters involved.
What this does is allows us to not only document the events that unfold as they happen, but also keeps those who aren't involved for whatever reason up to date. It also allows us to have the smaller events we wish to have and letting everyone else know of the advancements in the scenario so should they choose to partake at a later time, they don't have to feel like they've missed out on anything to participate.
What I'm also hoping it will do is give a bit of notoriety to some of the more involved members of the community. When you think of the things lacking in an MMO, and particularly CO in particular it's that no one is special. Everyone has defeated Menton and everyone helped to rid the city of the Qulaar invasion. But who in the community can say they were instrumental in destroying Superior? One of the most powerful villains to attack the hero community?
As I said, I'd be more than happy to have the e-mail set up and to keep the Primus Database up to date, now all I need is your feedback!
Thanks for hearing me out, if you made it this far that is!
