The House of Thorns
About us
The House of Thorns is an Adult Supergroup, this meaning all members are above the age of 18, if you're not Eighteen or older, you can stop reading now. There are a few reasons for this; as a group we wish to delve into the darker and more unexplored corners of Roleplay, and this could involve Mature Roleplay from Violence to Sexual acts. Lets get that straightm we are not an exclusively eRP Guild (Erotic Roleplay), though we allow such to go on without the feelings of repression. We can talk openly about such topics as Adults. HoT involves Mature Roleplay in our characters plots that have a much deeper meaning than just 'Sex', using this taboo form of Roleplay to further enhance character development. All of our members are serious Roleplayers with serious depthful characters, the so-called 'F**k-alts' will be turned away - this is not the type of character we are looking for. Also on the note of Villainous type characters these will likely be declined dependant on character concept (On an individual basis) the House despite it's Adult and BDSM Themes is a Hero group, all characters are Heroic in some form.
What's the guild's main theme?
----
Basically to form a place (the House) where "mature" Heroes can congregate. We are definitely MRP, and though we are not ERP-centric, we do tolerate it. Characters do not even necessarily have to be into that part of it, but it will be somewhat prevalent. RP is our primary theme, and we like well-developed character concepts, backstories, and interaction. We are here to help open acceptable avenues of exploration while remaining responsible and mature.
All Characters must be above Eighteen (For obvious reasons). Anyone who applies to our guild under the age of 18 or even if their character is, will be removed from the guild and IP banned from our forums; no questions no debates. Due to the nature of this group we expect people to join with an open mind, if you consider yourself close minded please don't bother to apply.
The Houses Lore, and its Timeline
Is there any lore to the House that I should be aware of before posting my application? My character will probably be completely unknowing when she first encounters it, but I'd like to be aware anyway, particularly towards answering what I could see my character doing for the Supergroup.
----
If you are brand new, there are many options. The House is not a secret organization, but it is one that is, by necessity, discreet. You may have heard whispers and rumors about its nature. There are some who say it has not been around very long, and others who claim it stretches back for hundreds of years. Some even whisper of a mystical nature, while others say it is just a perverted excuse for kinky heroes to get together and validate themselves.
The House has been around for many, many years, and it originated in Europe. It did not begin as a Hero organization, as it was founded by nobility. This is not terribly common knowledge outside the House.
In other words, I would not say there is any "true" Lore that you would or need be aware of before filling out an application. I realize this was a rather elusive answer.
Timeline
Circa early 13th Century:
The family Broche (possibly derivative of a successful merchant family, Brocchus, in ancient Rome) migrates from the Languedoc region of France to avoid the Albigensian Crusade. Though not openly tied to the Gnostic Catholic Church of that region, the family’s desire for open-mindedness and tolerance seemed a good fit. As the Roman Catholic armies invade to put the Gnostics to the sword, the wealthy family Broche flees to England.
Circa 14th Century:
A recently established noble House of Thorne comes to Court. Their lineage is linked to the wealthy merchant-family Broche of the Languedoc region.
Circa mid-late 17th Century:
The House of Thorns is founded. It is not an official organization sanctioned by either Crown or Church. There is rumor that such may have had something to do with the enlightened position of England in outlawing torture in 1640. The House is comprised of nobles seeking to explore “immoral” actions in the venues of the arts, philosophy, sexuality and fetish, and even the mystical and occult. John Wilmont, the 2nd Earl of Rochester, known libertine and writer of poetry, is rumored to be linked with the House. Unknown to the general public is the central and organizing involvement of the noble family Thorne.
Circa mid-late 18th Century:
Having grown in popularity and had to deal with its share of political and religious scandals and battles, the House of Thorns has continued to grow in popularity while still maintaining something of a quasi-secret status. Rumors abound of visits to House functions by the Marquis de Sade as well as covert participation from the House on both sides of the French Revolution. Rumors also speak of the notorious Satanic child murderer Gill de Rais having been a member of the House. Such rumors are attributed to enemies of the House attempting to malign and have them outlawed.
Circa late 18th/ early 19th Century:
A satellite branch of the House in the United States (New York City) rises in power and prestige, suggesting a shift to the New World. The satellite branch had moved decades before, which may imply a ‘scouting’ venture on the part of the House to move to other locations from England. Exact reasons for this change in geography are unknown, but political climate is suggested along with better economic opportunities in the United States.
Circa late 19th Century:
The location of the House is moved to Detroit for reasons unknown, though some records exist suggesting the French background of the Family Thorne may have something to do with this. The territory is a newly admitted free state into the United States. Participation of the House on the Union side of the Civil War as well as aiding in the operation of “underground railroad” to smuggle slaves to Canada is rumored.
Circa mid-late 20th Century:
The House of Thorns emerges as a SuperGroup.
The House of Thorns front: Fetish Fuel Club
A common misconception is that Club Fetish Fuel is the House itself, this isn't true. The Club itself is in a completely different street to the Mansion-like House situated in Northern Millenium City, the Club is merely a front for the group, a means of revenue, and a place to meet like-minded Heroes and Civilians too. The Atmosphere is nice people are welcoming a night at Club Fetish Fuel is a one to remember. This part of our forums is open to anyone, though only registered people can post. We currently have open RP sessions so that people can dip their feet in before they apply, or possibly this could be where we first meet your character, the choice is yours!
