As we know, not every comic has what it takes to stick around for as long as we'd like. There was a few growing up, when I first started getting into comics, that thinking back today, wish there were more of.

So, if you have a comic you use to read before it was given the axe, post them here! I have a couple...

Trencher

Shaman's Tears

This one had a lot of issues, but I wanted to post it anyways!

The Savage Dragon

Arana sad

They decided to basically implode the story, kill off some main characters and scrap the whole concept. My friend later told me that Marvel had essentially killed off Arana as well in an attempt to give someone else her powers. Lame.

Inhumans and Invaders from Marvel. Invaders stopped mid story!

From DC I am really missing Birds of Prey.

X-staix I loved this comic, I'm sad they killed off all of the characters. The Orphan for awhile was my Favorite character in Comic Books.

Young Justice It just seemed to lose so much and become such "Srs Bizness" when they "Graduated" to the Titans.

Preacher One of the best comic book expirences of my life. I'd love to see Garth Ennis pick up this universe again and do something with it.

There are a few others I can't recall off the top of my head.

The Star Brand. While a lot of the New Universe stuff was shite, this one was quite good and for the time, very edgy. Did a lot of excellent writing on the actual impacts superpowered individuals had on the non-superpowered people in their lives, and the general public reaction to the sudden emergence of supers. I understand Warren Ellis brought it back in newuniversal, but I haven't had a chance to read it.

Not so much a comic as an entire company.

Cross-Gen

I liked the idea of having separate comics, all with different, non-traditional Super Hero themes, all linked together by one common event and story. It took the idea of a comics universe, but built it in a more focused manner. I also thoroughly enjoyed and took advantage of their on-line subscription model, paying a pittance to read every comic they had, not just the ones I picked up in the store each month. Innovative at its time, I am not quite sure if any other company has mimicked it yet.

That said, the two titles I was most sad to see canned with the Cross-Gen line were:

Negation

Way of the Rat

Outside of Cross-Gen, and not strictly a "canceled" title, I do wish Marvel would do another Livewires series. Great idea, great characters, and played with the fun aspects of the Marvel Universe. If you haven't read it, I recommend finding a copy of the trade or the issues somewhere and having a read!

I was a huge cross-gen fan myself. Negation espically. It's a damn shame they screwed things up toward the end, and it crashed and burned as a label :/

Aria

A long time ago, I worked in a comic book shop. I still have all my comics from it -- mostly Michael Turner work, with some few legacy and special edition X-Men I collected for my brother (yeah, I'm an awesome sister) -- and Aria was my favorite.

Oh, I thought of another that was a very promising collaboration. Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor. Basically comic/graphic adaptations of his short stories, which was a brilliant fit. I got a few issues, but then couldn't find it around. Apparently there were distribution issues. It was canceled less than a year after the first issue due to, from what I understand, were creative conflicts.

This isn't surprising at all, since Harlan Ellison is a notorious douchebag.

I really enjoyed Noble Causes...and they axed that one. It was a guilty pleasure.

One of the best, most underrated comics of the last twenty years was, sadly, axed before it even saw #16. I've been collecting for more than twenty years now and this is still one of my all-time favorite books. Ever.

Major Bummer

Besides the obvious humor and spoofiness, there was some serious undertonage happening there. It's one of those books that was just an onion of depth. Layer after layer.

Also, I truly miss Impulse, The Flash (Wally West - I think one of the biggest mistakes of all time was bringing back Barry) and all of the !mpact comics - The Shield, the Fly, The Web, and all the others. Though the Shield and Web are making a comeback with new ongoings happening in the DC universe. Sweet!

I canceled my subscription for Spider-man after one more day.

In essence, it retconned all the 20 years that I read the character and said "You know the spidey you know for your entire life? Well to hell with you, enjoy he being exactly as he was created mmmmkay?"

The fact that still selling confuses me.

Anyway, the topic is about cancelled comics.

Blue Beetle. They cancelled it right after it was getting good!

I forgot one. Epic's adaptation of Neuromancer. The book looked great, but they only released one graphic novel out of the five planned.

That's not entirely correct. She did give up a part of her powers, but retains the important ones. They never killed her. After Civil War, she briefly became Ms. Marvel's sidekick.

They put John Rogers off the comic. John Rogers built that thing up completely. It screamed "We don't want to do anything with this character."
